In The Middle

This week we have quite a milestone. We have middle school orientation.

I'm so not ready for this.

I've been dreading the day my kid goes off to middle school, practically since the day she was born. I remember it like it was yesterday.

Lots of good memories, some bad ones, but mostly good.

Still, I am having major reservations about her walking into that giant school, her being a little bitty thing for a prospective 7th grader. All those 8th and 9th graders will look so much bigger than her, and I'm sort of associating bigger with meaner. I don't know why I'm doing that.

She's a good girl, she has good friends, and she makes good choices, so I don't really need to worry about her. But my mother bear instinct is really strong, and I just want to protect her from all the things she'll see from this point on in her life.

Homeschool is an option, but not one I'm putting much stock in. She isn't really interested in that right now, and I can't say I blame her.

Can someone please make time stop? Maybe for just a year? Or a day? I'd even take a day.

I cannot believe you will have a 7th grader! My thoughts are just like yours! I am scared to death! They say it's the worst years of your life! And, if we survive, or they survive, we are sure to go to heaven! LOL! I wish you all the best with it! Maybe in a year or two you can give me some pointers! :)

This would be the day I am so glad I held Brooklyn out of Kindergarten for a year. I agree Middle School is terrifying!! Kids go to middle school and become little spawns of satan. LOL. ;) I'm kidding.. She will love it!

As a middle school teacher - and ours is 6th to 8th - let me just say that middle school is elementary with bigger kids. I remember that I became known as the woman to ask when you had fears about sending your first child off to middle school - and this was before I taught - and it really will be all right.

And if it's not, just go and volunteer every other day in the library or something and you will then find out for yourself that you can influence things for the better.
