Perhaps I'm Heartless

But am I the only one that thinks Michael Jackson was a freak?

He was.

Look at him.

I know we shouldn't judge based on looks, but when he was black, then white, then his nose falls off, and his chin gets all square, and his hair gets all greasy, it's hard not to judge.

Then there was the whole thing about sleeping in a bed with little boys.

Can we forget that in lieu of a little moonwalk? I think not.

I'm not heartless enough to know how hard it is to lose a family member, but come on people. There are other songs to be played on the radio, and E! should probably get a clue and stop with the "Breaking News" updates already.

Did we forget Farrah died? And what about Ed McMahon? I'm pretty sure they deserve a tribute more than MJ, for they never had to stand trial for child molestation charges.

I'm just sayin...

He definitely had his issues (and there were some major ones), but credit is due where credit is deserved...he was a great entertainer and produced some great music...songs that will always be fun to sing or dance along to. His death makes me sad b/c that talent is now gone and just like Elvis, Marilyn, and many others, they let fame get the better of them and lost their true selves and ended up taking too much meds. As for Farrah, Charlie's Angels was before my time, and I never did have any of her playboy calendars or posters on my wall, and Ed McMahon went bankrupt even tho he was the Publishers Clearing House sweepstakes spokesperson for years. I don't relate to either of them very well, but I empathize with their families b/c I've seen what cancer and ailing health does to people too.

I'm a little non-plussed by all the MJ fervor. I'm not a fan - cultural icon or not.

Death is sad, and I'd wish comfort and condolences for all friends and family of anyone who died.

But to make such a big deal?? I don't much like what it says about who we think are heroes!!

Im am somewhat in agreement. If I hear another MJ song I might puke. I even swithched to the country channel and wala MJ. I agree he was a music icon/legend. But as you said it seems to be diminishing the loss of other great celebs.

The comment above by Phoebe is really by Granny Babs!!

Phoebe is bereft at the loss of a cultural icon that defined her youth.

I can see it now--sightings of MJ and a new host of MJ look-a-like shows in Vegas. Yea, I'm heartless too. The news media can give it a rest and report on, oh I don't know,N. Korea threatening to blow up Hawaii? You would think that would be the BIG story for the day!!!!!

He was a TOTAL WACKO MENTAL CASE. I totally agree. As for the tributes I apparently dodged them this weekend.

Yep, no loss to society, I say.

He was Wacko Jacko for sure, and I would rather not have to hear so much praise sent his way....yeah I know he had some awesome songs back in the day and my sister and I totally had his poster on our wall but he really went downhill. I suppose it is human nature to remember the good and not the bad once someone has passed, but I can't wait until he is not front page news!

LOL - you totally made my night! I used to credit him in my dance history lessons, but really. . . c'mon. I still love my friends comment about how disappointed he'll be in the spirit world when he realizes he'll be resurrected as a black man. Hilarious!

I bet its a real big loss to his family. Yes he made many mistakes like we all do. I thought our religion taught us not to judge. Remember he does have a Mom and family that loved him very much. I'm kinda shocked at the comments. Boy you guys are very cold. Maybe you should go to the temple so you can get the spirit. I'm sure he knows he is a black man. Do you think Heavenly Father would be pleased with your comments? Just leave the judging to Heavenly Father. I'm sure we will all be surprised when we get to the spirit world.

Dearest Anonymous,

I do appreciate comments, really, I do. Even ones that seem disproportionately harsh in comparison to the original post. I feel you've missed the intended tone of the post.

It is terribly sad that MJ has passed. It is also terribly sad that Farrah Fawcett passed as well. I don't doubt that either of their families are heartbroken. Losing a loved one is terrible under the best of circumstances, trust me, I know first hand, but the circumstances of MJ's death would make it especially tough.

The thought that his family has to now deal with his children and his estate and the stress that comes with that is overwhelming.

But add on top of that all that being a celebrity did to him, and as a spectator, I am free to pass judgment on him just as I would any other celebrity.

As far as leaving that up to the Lord, you're absolutely right. But if I made no judgments about anything here on earth, I would not be able to discern truth from evil, now would I?

So I say simply to you, I love my readers. But if you don't appreciate my sick sense of humor and my insignificant thoughts, feel free to read elsewhere.

All the best,
Keli.
