Today is picture day. I hate picture day. Is it just me, or do the school pictures always look like crap? Add to that that they cost $40, and that just makes me one mad mama!
I would rather do haircuts in trade for someone's awesome photography skills, but I don't want to be that mom who's kid doesn't get to stand in line for school pictures.
What do you do about picture day?

I'm THAT mom. I refuse to pay for the pictures that never are very cute. The intention is always to get their pictures taken by someone else, but it doesn't usually happen.
I consider it a necessary evil. I've never beeN the mom who takes her baby to a studio at 3, 6, 9 months, etc. Except for a few times. And nowadays, those studio pics are so dorky. But I do shell out the dough for, like you said, $40 pics PER kid. I always have lots left. just yesterday I was going thru my own schooltrunk and man am I glad I have all the extra photos of myself from grade to grade. It's a good timeline.
But it's a ripoff. For sure. I just bite the bullet.
I'm like Min. Don't pay and forget to take them somewhere else.
Last year I finally remembered and took my daughter to Walmart. Tons more pics, different poses that we chose and my daughter reminded me we have to do that again this year.
It stresses me out, it stresses me out more that I can't be there to fix their hair and straighten out their clothes. Their pictures always look cute, but they are way expensive and not very interesting. I would love to take them myself or have somebody else do it that is an amazing photographer. With all that said, I still have hem do school pictures, it just part of school life I guess.
Ok, that last sentence was a botch. " I still have *them do school pictures, *it's just part of school life, I guess."
AMEN Sister! And to make ours worse, the kids wear uniforms- so year after year it looks like I've dressed them in the same outfit!
Kathie and I are on the same page with the uniforms. I always just suck it up and pay. I'm usually happy enough I guess...I keep paying.
I just hope for the best!!!!
When you mentioned the haircut thing, that reminded me of when Dan tried to cut his own hair right before our engagment pics and he totally did a crappy job, so you had to fix it for him. Do you remember? Thanks, just in case I never told you! (it was like 10 years ago, hahahahaha!)
I hate school pictures. Half the time I totally forget about it and send my kids to school with uncombed hair and an ugly t-shirt on. If I do remember, I order just the class picture and skip the lousy packages of the ones of just my kid. I can take my own sweet photos, thank you very much, and I do on a regular basis. Though I did get suckered in to soccer photos today. 18 bucks later for two kids and I'll have myself two lovely sheets with kids missing off of each team because their parents cared even less than I did about getting them there for the line up. Sigh.
at our school everyone gets their picture taken even if you didn't pay. They just send them home and hope that you will want to buy them after you see them. They are always crappy pictures. I haven't bought them in years. I figure I take enough pictures of my kids to last forever. Besides, my boys ALWAYS make goofy faces.
Our school pictures are this Tuesday...I hate them too and this year I have 3 kids, all needing pictures. One thing I hate...our school does pictures in the spring and my kids think they need them. I never order them. I think once a year is more than enough!
Try being the teacher in school pictures - I have never seen such horrible pictures of myself!! (Fortunately we don't have to pay for them. But we have to wear a badge around that has said picture on it!!)
